Insecurity

Due to the weekly schedule of this blog it is rare that a special day falls on the day of publishing. So allow me to indulge myself and dedicate this post to all Mothers all over the world but especially to mine. Happy mothers day!

“I’m so self conscious that’s why you always see me with at least one of my watches.” That is a quote from All fall down by Kanye west. I have spent the better part of my time this week watching people. Most places I have gone I have listened as opposed to speaking, or at least as much as a verbose person like me can. I learned something. We are all human. Even the most rich, powerful influential people are just as vulnerable and self conscious, if not more, as the rest of us. I think Shakespeare put it bet in his book (and I know you have read this one because it was forced down our throats at some point) Merchant of Venice when Shylock bursts out in anger and says:

And what’s his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes?Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions, fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility?

We seem to get so lost inside out own insecurities, fears and weaknesses that we forget that everyone else is human. So we put on facades and walk around trying to impress everyone when we were perfectly fine the way we were.

Think about it though. The people who love you most are the people who know you best right? Insecurities, fears, secrets, warts funny laughs and all, they take you for who you are. So what is to make you think that the world won’t like you as you are? Truth is the world doesn’t spend it’s time analyzing your every move and step. They don’t sit and think of why you used the word mellifluous as opposed to sweet sounding, sorry to burst your bubble but the world has its own problems to deal with, what with global warming and the like.

So basically what I’m saying is. Be yourself. Maybe they will like you maybe they won’t. The only thing I can guarantee is you will like you. And when it all boils down to it, that is all that really matters.
